Property Manager Spotlight:
Kerry Webster B.S., C.P.M

Senior Regional Property Manager,
B. R. E. Properties

Kerry Webster is a native of South Africa and first visited the United States with her husband, an American Field's Scholar, in the 1970's. In 1983, they immigrated to the United States because of the political climate in South Africa. They settled in Tucson where she worked with her husband managing a Schlotzsky's Deli. While searching for an apartment she also found a new career as a leasing agent for Trammell Crow. She moved to San Diego with her husband, seven year old daughter and four year old son, after transferring to B.R.E. Properties in 1998.

Property management is a very rewarding career and the people who succeed are those who can stay at it when the going gets tough. Those who have a good attitude and are flexible make good property managers. Kerry is an active member of the San Diego County Apartment Association, and is on its board of directors and serves on the legislative action committee. Although she is busy, she chose the legislative action committee knowing that her investment of time would make a difference for the industry.

When asked what one of the funniest things that she could remember happening during her management career, she mentioned this story. While managing a huge complex in Phoenix, a tenant who had just moved in was expecting delivery of rental furniture. He made arrangements with the rental office to release the key to his apartment when the delivery arrived. They did so, but the key they gave the delivery people was to a different building number with the same unit number. Oddly enough, the unit that they gave the key to had just been moved into and it did not have any furniture in it. When that tenant came home he opened the door and much to his surprise had a completely furnished apartment. He went outside and did a double take of the unit number and looked inside again and then notified the leasing office. Thankfully, all of those involved were understanding and had a good sense of humor so everyone had a big laugh.
