Procrastination

A painfully shy man fell in love with a young woman. He sensed that she felt the same way, but he couldn't find the courage to ask her out.

Finally, he decided he would mail her a love letter every day for one year, and then ask her for a date.

Faithfully, he followed this plan, and at year's end he was courageous enough to call her - only to discover she'd married the letter carrier.

Behind schedule when Turner Construction Company took it over, the new Student Union at Cal State, Pomona (recently named Bronco Student Union) provides not only a dramatic addition to the campus skyline but also a highly functional interior. In addition to enlarging the existing food court in the original student union, several exercise rooms are now available along with an all purpose auditorium/ conference area, study and socializing rooms, a David and Buster-like game area and billiards parlor.

The urgency of making up for lost time created a significant challenge for the many subcontractors who were competing to work in the same limited space. Roofing, mechanical, electrical, drywall framing, drywall finishing and painting were all anxious to prove their mettle.

Turner Construction’s Superintendent Larry Docking and Project Manager Marty Studley worked diligently to create an atmosphere and develop a plan where all trades could work full blast without violating each other’s space.

General Coatings’painters were presented with several challenges - to paint the new and existing student union’s interior, especially the food court - while the students were present; blend the stucco exterior of the old union with that of the new; and carefully organize the placement of 20 different interior colors, especially in the busy food court. To solve the problem of the ever present students, General Coatings’ Project Manager Michael Licht and Foreman Keith Cook brought their ten man staff in from 3 a.m.to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and all day Saturday. Licht and Cook worked closely with Frazee Paint’s San Demos store to match the old and new paint colors and to integrate the production and delivery of the 20 different interior colors.

When you have a tough demanding job to ... call the General Coatings’ “ Dream Team.” They make tough jobs look easy.
