Property Manager Spotlight:
Tracie Hager
Senior Vice President, Burnham Real Estate
by Robin Heckle, Vice-President of Client Services
New Way Landscape & Tree Services

“It was an accident!” says Tracie Hager when asked how she became a Commercial Property Manager. Thirteen years ago, after making the decision to leave the electronics industry, Tracie was doing temp work and weighing her options. A 3-day assignment for Koll working for then BOMA Vice President, Karen Flores turned into a great career and an impressive rise to the top of her field.

Tracie’s journey has led her to spend the past five years of her career at Burnham Real Estate as a Senior Vice President and to be the current Past President of BOMA San Diego. She credits her success to her belief in always doing a minimum of 110%. An overachiever for sure, Tracie creates a standard that her co-workers and employees aspire to and are inspired by. When asked what she likes most about her position at Burnham, Tracie says “It’s the entrepreneurial atmosphere, the family & people oriented environment created by Burnham’s President & CEO, Stath Karras, which really makes it a great place to work.”

What takes top billing in Tracie’s mind as the most critical challenge? “Relationships! They are absolutely the most important aspect of the business,” says Tracie. “Whether it be with owners, tenants, employees or vendors, we all want the same thing, it’s the relationships that get us there.”One relationship in particular stands out for Tracie. “It was a long time ago but is still vivid” she says, “I can still see him – a little brown mouse!” “And I do not like mice!”

“A tenant had complained about a mouse in their office and asked if we could do something. We called the pest control company. Being inexperienced in mouse trapping we agreed that a glue board would be acceptable. The next morning those same tenants found a screaming mouse glued to the board. It had just gone from bad to worse, but was not over yet. The solution was to get the glue board out of their space ASAP. Fortunately the other gal working with me was braver than I and agreed to take care of it. The nearest trashcan seemed like a good idea. A short time later another call came in…it was the Deli next door complaining of a strange screaming noise coming from somewhere, maybe the trashcan…”
