Property Manager Spotlight: Julie Lynne
An interview with Julie Lynne, Sr. Manager, Yale Properties

In November 1994, Julie was a temporary employee in the management office of a newly renovated “power center.” There, she had a boss who taught her the “ropes” of property management and encouraged her to take a position as an Assistant Property Manager with Koll Retail in Irvine, CA. Managing these properties, Julie came to understand the three-day notice, Chapter 11 bankruptcies and resolving the day-to-day difficulties of the average retail strip center.

In August 1997, she moved back to San Diego and became a Property Manager overseeing a portfolio of commercial office and industrial properties. In March 1999, Julie became a Senior Property Manager for Yale Properties.

“My greatest ongoing challenge is keeping myself organized. As a property manager, you are constantly being interrupted as well as trying to resolve many problems simultaneously. The property manager must focus on the priorities, constantly reorganizing the priorities to make a place for each new priority that arises,” Julie shares.

Julie added, “The secret to my success in the industry has always been the family, friends, supervisors and coworkers that have helped and supported me. Without such great support and assistance, I would never be where I am today.”

A Funny Thing happened on the Way to the Office…. One morning, a van with the hood up and smoke billowing from the engine was parked in front of the trash enclosure. Looking perplexed, the owner of the van explained that he had driven from Northern California and had just pulled into the driveway, when he noticed that the engine was beginning to smoke. Stopping in front of trash enclosure, he opened the hood and along with the great billow of smoke that floated out of the engine, an opossum crawled out from under the still smoking engine and into the adjacent canyon. The driver discovered that the opossum had built a nest in the engine, probably for want of the engine warmth, and traveled with him down to sunny Southern California…an example of the “modern migration.”
