Property Manager Spotlight:
Barbara J. Puccio, Senior Property Manager, Insignia/ESG, Inc.

I have been in the commercial end of the business for about ten years. Prior to that I worked for real estate developers on retail and medical office buildings for a number of years. In 1993, I began working as an administrative assistant for Homart Development in Mission Valley, at a building known as Centerside II. I was hired by Valerie Gannaway, who now works for Equity Office Properties in San Diego. Homart sold our building to William Wilson & Associates and I continued on with them. When Valerie left for Equity Office, I was promoted to Property Manager by sheer dumb luck. Though excited by the promotion, I was terrified by my lack of knowledge, so I enrolled in BOMI courses and received my RPA in January 1998 and my FMA in November of 1998.

My greatest ongoing challenge is to be able to live up to my own expectations and to keep a balance between work and home. I think keeping the balance is the only way to maintain my sanity (that and a glass of Chardonnay in the evening). I try to organize my time so that my weekends are free to unwind and have some fun. I also have a wonderful and supportive husband who understands the demands of my career-so that makes my life a little easier along the way.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to me in the industry? Probably trying to look like I know how to golf when I am with folks in the industry. I can’t take myself too seriously in this endeavor.... I’m not very good, but I really have a blast, especially when I get to play every year in the “ Birdydette Whiffy-Hookem” tournament at Lomas Santa Fe Executive with a great group of gals. It is a hoot and the highlight of my golf experience.
